Naturally Grown, Chemically Free: Fresh Lavender Flowers You Can Trust

At LavenderSA, we believe the best lavender starts in the soil—not in a spray bottle. Our fresh flowers are grown using natural cultivation methods, relying on healthy soil biology, targeted organic inputs, and careful water management rather than synthetic chemicals. This commitment to clean growing means every stem that leaves our Pretoria fields is free from pesticide residue, artificial preservatives, and chemical growth stimulants.

Why Chemical-Free Fresh Lavender Matters: Free of pesticides and insecticides

🌿 Safe for Direct Contact

No synthetic residues means our flowers are safe for skin contact, culinary use, and inhalation without concern for chemical exposure.

💧 Preserves Natural Essential Oils

Chemical sprays and artificial drying agents can degrade or mask natural terpenes. Our untouched blooms retain their true aromatic profile.

🍽️ Food-Grade & Clean Beauty Ready

Meets the purity standards required for culinary infusions, skincare formulations, and wellness products where ingredient transparency is non-negotiable.

🌍 Environmentally Responsible

Natural growing practices protect soil health, pollinator populations, and local water systems—supporting sustainable agriculture in South Africa.

How We Harvest & Handle Our Fresh Blooms

Every stem is hand-cut at optimal maturity, immediately moved to shade, and rapidly cooled to slow respiration and preserve turgidity. We never dip, spray, or wax our fresh flowers. Stems are bundled, labelled by variety and harvest date, and kept in clean, ventilated storage until collection or dispatch. This careful handling ensures longer vase life, consistent colour, and maximum fragrance retention.

Ideal Applications for Chemical-Free Fresh Lavender

  • Culinary & Beverage Artistry: Safe for syrups, infused honeys, baked goods, and herbal teas where chemical residue is unacceptable.
  • Wellness & Aromatherapy: Perfect for steam inhalation, linen mists, and therapeutic sachets that require pure, unadulterated botanicals.
  • Event & Wedding Styling: Fresh, pesticide-free flowers are safer for close-proximity décor, bouquet work, and venue styling around guests and food service.
  • Artisan Crafts & DIY: Ideal for potpourri blends, natural dye experiments, and resin art where clean material prevents chemical reactions or discolouration.

Dried Lavender Products

Please place your order 3 weeks in advance.

Dried Lavender Products

Harvested, carefully dried, and prepared to preserve maximum fragrance, colour, and botanical integrity, our dried lavender range is ideal for crafters, wellness brands, culinary artisans, and home decorators. All dried products are sourced directly from our Pretoria growing fields and processed using low-heat, air-drying methods to retain essential oil content and natural aroma.

Available Dried Lavender Formats

  • French “Royal Crown” Lavender Confetti – Sourced exclusively from the flower heads of our French Royal Crown variety. This fine, petal-rich confetti is perfect for potpourri, sachets, bath blends, and artisanal craft projects. The delicate texture and lasting fragrance make it a favourite among wedding planners and home fragrance creators.
  • Margaret Roberts Lavender “Rice” (Stripped Buds) – Meticulously hand-stripped from the stems, leaving only the clean, intact flower buds. Free from leaves, twigs, or stem fragments, this premium-grade lavender rice is ideal for high-end sachets, tea blends, aromatic fills, and therapeutic applications. Its consistent texture and rich colour ensure a polished, professional finish.
  • Munstead Angustifolia (Culinary & Aromatic Grade) – Our premium English lavender, selected for its low camphor content and sweet, floral profile. This variety is specifically suited for culinary use, herbal infusions, and small-batch essential oil production. Due to limited field cultivation and seasonal harvesting windows, this product is typically available from November through late January, subject to annual bloom cycles and crop yields.
  • Dried Lavender Bundles – Our signature tied bunches, air-dried to perfection. Available in the same varieties as our fresh-cut range, dried bundles retain their structural integrity and fragrance for months. Perfect for home décor, event styling, rustic centrepieces, or DIY craft projects.

Ordering & Lead Time Guidelines

To ensure optimal quality and accurate order fulfilment, we recommend placing dried lavender orders approximately two to three weeks in advance. This allows our team to carefully select, dry, sort, and package your requested varieties while maintaining strict quality control standards. Seasonal availability, particularly for culinary-grade Munstead, may vary based on harvest conditions.

Storage, Shelf Life & Our Natural Drying Process

Because LavenderSA follows a strictly chemical-free, naturally air-dried process, our shelf-life expectations differ from commercially treated botanicals. We never use artificial preservatives, synthetic drying agents, or chemical stabilisers. Instead, each batch is slowly dried at low temperatures to preserve the plant’s natural essential oils, delicate colour, and authentic aromatic profile.

This commitment to purity means our dried lavender remains in its true botanical state. While this ensures a safer, cleaner product for culinary, wellness, and craft applications, it also means the material will naturally evolve over time. Shelf life can vary slightly between batches depending on harvest timing, ambient humidity, and storage conditions.

For optimal quality: Store all dried lavender in cool, dry, and airtight containers away from direct sunlight and moisture. When stored correctly, our dried lavender will retain its therapeutic and aromatic qualities for 6–12 months. For peak colour vibrancy and maximum fragrance intensity, we recommend using confetti and stripped buds within 3–6 months of purchase. Bundles may gradually soften or fade in colour over time, but will continue to release their characteristic calming scent for many months.

🌿 A Note on Natural Botanicals: Slight variations in colour, texture, or scent intensity are normal with chemical-free dried lavender and are a clear sign that no artificial stabilisers have been added. Your product remains fresh, potent, and completely safe for all intended uses.

Packaging & Presentation

All dried bundles—whether fresh or dried—are carefully bound with natural twine or secure elastic bands for easy handling and consistent presentation. Custom packaging and bulk bagging options are available for wholesale and trade clients upon request.

Lavender Blossoms: Naturally Dried, Hand-Harvested & Versatile

Lavender blossoms are carefully harvested, naturally air-dried flowers cultivated without synthetic pesticides or chemical treatments. Grown in the open fields of Pretoria and hand-picked at peak bloom, each batch is processed to preserve its natural essential oils, delicate colour, and true botanical character. In its dried form, lavender is valued primarily for its aromatic qualities and gentle floral presence rather than as a traditional tea leaf. Naturally caffeine-free, it imparts a soothing, slightly sweet and herbaceous note to herbal infusions and botanical blends.

Tea Blending & Flavour Pairing

In herbal tea formulations, lavender blossom is typically used as a complementary botanical. It harmonises beautifully with South African staples such as rooibos, green rooibos, and honeybush, as well as chamomile, rose petals, citrus peel, and peppermint. Due to its concentrated fragrance, it is most effective when blended in measured proportions rather than used alone. This makes it a favoured ingredient in evening, relaxation, and sleep-support tea blends, where its aroma contributes to a calm and balanced flavour profile. Lavender integrates seamlessly into both fine-cut and whole-leaf loose formulations.

Inclusion Guidelines

The recommended inclusion rate for dried lavender blossom typically ranges between 1% and 5% of the total blend weight, depending on the desired aromatic intensity. At lower concentrations, it provides a subtle floral undertone that enhances without dominating. Higher percentages may introduce a more pronounced, perfumed character, which can be desirable in specific wellness or ceremonial blends but should be balanced carefully against milder base ingredients to avoid overpowering the final cup.

Botanical & Historical Context

Lavender has been documented in European herbal traditions for centuries, primarily valued for its fragrance and use in teas, sachets, and aromatic preparations. Botanical literature identifies key volatile compounds in the flowers, notably linalool and linalyl acetate, which are responsible for its distinctive scent and traditional calming reputation. Contemporary research continues to explore its aromatic and topical applications, with most scientific literature focusing on its essential oil composition and historical use rather than nutritional function.

Cosmetic & Soap Applications

Beyond teas, dried lavender blossoms are a staple in natural skincare and soap making. They are frequently used whole or lightly crushed as a decorative garnish, gentle exfoliant, and natural scent booster. Known for their soothing and traditionally recognised antimicrobial properties, lavender flowers are especially popular in bedtime, relaxation, and sensitive-skin formulations. When used as a surface garnish, they retain their colour and texture well. For deeper integration, the blossoms can be cold-infused into carrier oils or glycerine bases to transfer their aromatic and botanical qualities into lotions, balms, and bath products.

Versatility & Suggested Uses

  • Herbal sachets, drawer fresheners, and sleep pillows
  • Bath salts, soak blends, and foot soaks
  • Loose-leaf tea formulations and tisanes
  • Cold-process soap garnishes and exfoliating scrubs
  • Potpourri, floral arrangements, and natural craft projects

Carefully dried without chemicals or artificial stabilisers, our lavender blossoms deliver consistent quality, authentic aroma, and reliable performance for product makers, tea blenders, and wellness brands.

The Healing Powers of Dried Lavender Flowers

Dried Lavender Flowers

Lavandula angustifolia

Benefit: Pure & Calming

Whether steeped as a gentle herbal infusion, scattered in linen sachets, or added to warm bath water, dried lavender flowers help to soothe tension, balance the senses, and promote relaxation. Their naturally floral aroma creates a tranquil atmosphere, making them an ideal companion for evening wind-down routines.

Lavandula angustifolia is a hardy, drought-tolerant perennial cultivated in South Africa’s sunny, well-drained soils. The flower spikes are hand-harvested just as the buds begin to open, capturing peak essential oil content. After careful low-heat air-drying, the blossoms retain their vibrant colour and true botanical character without chemical preservatives or artificial stabilisers.

For those seeking natural ways to ease restlessness or support better sleep, lavender is a time-honoured botanical ally. The flowers contain naturally occurring compounds such as linalool and linalyl acetate, which have been widely studied for their calming interaction with the nervous system. Used traditionally in teas, tinctures, and aromatic preparations, dried lavender offers a gentle, chemical-free way to bring balance to daily wellness rituals.

Grown Clean. Dried Natural. Pure Lavender

Lavender SA’s dried lavender products are processed using ambient airflow methods—not industrial ovens, chemical preservatives, or artificial stabilisers. This preserves essential oils and botanical integrity.

7 Ways to Use Dried Lavender for Relaxation & Home Care

Dried lavender isn't just beautiful—it's one of the most versatile botanicals you can use in your South African home. Whether you're looking to refresh your space, create a thoughtful gift, or enjoy a natural sleep aid, there are plenty of practical ways to put this fragrant flower to use. All ideas below are easy to try at home, using chemical-free, hand-harvested lavender grown in Pretoria since 2012.

1. Style a Dried Lavender Vase Arrangement

Display dried lavender stems in a dry vase for instant rustic charm. No water needed—simply arrange loosely for a natural look, or pair with other dried botanicals like statice or yarrow for a timeless bouquet. Tie with twine or ribbon for an elegant finish. Our hand-harvested bundles retain their colour and fragrance for months when kept away from direct sunlight.

2. Create Bedtime Sachets for Restful Sleep

Fill small cloth pouches with dried lavender buds and tuck them inside pillowcases or place beside your bed. Lavender's naturally calming aroma helps ease tension and supports a peaceful transition to sleep. For best results, use food-grade English lavender varieties (Hidcote or Munstead) and refresh sachets every 3–4 months for peak fragrance.

Tip: Store unused sachets in an airtight container to preserve scent between uses.

3. Infuse Carrier Oils for Massage & Skincare

Combine dried lavender buds with a neutral carrier oil like sweet almond, jojoba, or grapeseed oil. Store in a glass jar in a sunny spot for 2–4 weeks, shaking gently every few days. Strain before use. The resulting infused oil is ideal for gentle massage, moisturising dry skin, or adding to bath water. Always patch-test before widespread use.

4. Add Floral Notes to Culinary Creations

Only use food-grade English lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) for culinary applications. Dried buds can be steeped in honey, infused into simple syrups, or lightly folded into shortbread, scones, or herbal teas. Start with small amounts—lavender's flavour is potent and can easily overwhelm a dish. Never use ornamental or high-camphor varieties for ingestion.

Important: Confirm the botanical name before culinary use. When in doubt, consult a qualified herbalist or chef.

5. Freshen Drawers, Linens & Wardrobes Naturally

Place dried lavender buds in organza pouches or breathable cloth bags and tuck them into drawers, linen closets, or storage boxes. The gentle fragrance helps repel moths and keeps fabrics smelling fresh without synthetic chemicals. Refresh pouches every 2–3 months for consistent scent.

6. Create Natural Cleaning & Deodorising Blends

Mix dried lavender buds with baking soda or bicarbonate of soda to create a natural carpet deodoriser. Sprinkle lightly, let sit for 10–15 minutes, then vacuum thoroughly. You can also add a few buds to homemade vinegar-based cleaning sprays for a subtle, chemical-free fragrance. Always test on a small area first.

7. Elevate Gift Wrapping with Aromatic Touches

Tuck a small sprig of dried lavender or a pinch of buds inside gift wrap, favour boxes, or handmade cards. The recipient enjoys a delicate floral scent long after unwrapping—a thoughtful, sensory detail that sets your gifts apart. Pair with handwritten notes for a personal, artisanal presentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does dried lavender last?

When stored properly in a cool, dry, airtight container away from light, dried lavender retains its fragrance and colour for 6–12 months. Buds used in sachets or potpourri may benefit from refreshing every 2–4 months for peak aroma.

Why does dried lavender sometimes lose its scent?

Exposure to light, heat, humidity, or air accelerates the evaporation of natural essential oils. Store dried lavender in opaque, sealed containers to maximise longevity. Note: our chemical-free lavender releases a subtle, authentic fragrance—not an overpowering synthetic scent.

Can I use dried lavender in the bath?

Yes—place dried buds in a muslin bag or tea infuser before adding to bath water to avoid cleanup. Ensure you're using food-grade, chemical-free lavender. Never apply undiluted essential oils directly to skin without professional guidance.

Is all lavender safe for culinary use?

No. Only Lavandula angustifolia varieties (such as Hidcote, Munstead, or Ellagance) are recommended for ingestion due to their low camphor content. Lavandin, Spanish, and French lavenders contain higher camphor levels and are not suitable for culinary applications.
